Dad's Birthday Card

This Sunday we are having a family gathering to celebrate my Dad's 81st birthday. If you knew my Dad you would know he HATES any type of recognition or celebration and thinks parties are 'silly.' He agreed to let us all meet and gather to celebrate, though. Nice of him, right? In honor of this great event (lol) I made him a card. Now, usually he just chides me when he sees my hand made cards and says, "eh, too girlie." He pretty much says NEVER to make him a card because he probably thinks I only know how to make feminine or blingie stuff. But I'm going to surprise him this weekend. What do you think of his birthday card?
It is from Stampin' Up! and called "Country Livin'" and when I purchased it months ago, it was precisely for this type of event. Maybe an older relative or a guy relative or friend who HATES girlie stuff. Or who doesn't want to be fussed over. This image (or sets of images) is so perfect for my Dad because he's always worn cowboy boots and has always had a pickup truck as long as I remember. The wood grain layer is actually a new stamp I recently bought. They have paper that has wood paneling on it but when your paper is gone that's IT. With this huge stamp you can have all the background wood paneling you need...forever! lol.
Anyway, I used Bermuda Bay as the card base and my watercolor pencils to give it that vintage, sort of faded look. I got the idea to add the boots (after I colored them I fussy cut them out to adhere) after I was just about done and felt the card needed a little something. I really wanted to avoid ribbon or bling of any sort though looking back the burlap ribbon would have worked well here too, I think.

Anyway, that's my day so far. We are about to go pick up Kiera and I will get my swap cards finished. I'm scheduled to get them mailed out Monday and I know all day Sunday we will be traveling to and from my Dad's place and celebrating his special day.

What are YOU up to today??

    1. Thanks, Chris!! I have to admit it is a struggle to figure out more masculine cards. I watch tutorials, etc, but still it isn't in my nature I guess. I love the Bermuda Bay; I decided if the card was 'macho' the colors were going to be a little bit girly lol.
